Soda cans are everywhere and the thin, pliable aluminum from these cans is ideal for this embossing project.

Materials:
- Aluminum soda can
- Embossing tools (A metal knitting needle also works well)
- Craft sponge, Strong scissors, craft knife, leather work gloves to protect your hands
- Embossed bird pattern ( download PDF)
Method:
- Cut up the can by first removing the top with the craft
knife, cut down one side and then around the bottom with the scissors. Discard the top and bottom for recycling. Use the thin aluminum sheet from the side
of the can for this project.

- Place the aluminum sheet printed side up onto the craft
sponge to create a soft backing. Use the
embossing tool or knitting needle to transfer the design onto the aluminum. Press hard enough to make an impression into
the aluminum sheet.
- Cut out the design along with a scissors and discard the
cutoffs for recycling.
- Turn the design shiny-side up. Use the embossing tools to work along the
design to highlight the patterns and create an embossed finish.
Work on both sides of the sheet to enhance the design until it stands
out effectively from the background.
Below are some examples how I have used these embossed
designs on greeting cards.
