Genuine craft market

Towards the end of the year market season fever begins to take hold.  Seasonal craft markets are a convenient way for crafters to showcase, market and sell their handmade products.  Often crafters have to compete with commercial or mass produced products at markets, however some specialised markets focus entirely on handmade, home made and home grown products.

The Roodepoort Museum hosts a craft market, organized by the Friends of Roodepoort Museum, where exclusively hand crafted and home made goods are displayed and sold by local crafters.  The market coincides with South African Heritage Month during which we celebrate our rich heritage this includes art and crafts which showcase the rich and beautiful cultural diversity in South Africa.  In addition to the craft market visitors are also able to tour the museum free of charge.  A special treat for craft and toy lovers is the museum’s temporary exhibition of vintage Teddy Bears.  On display are examples that date from the early 1900 to the present day and promises to fascinate the young and the young at heart.
