DIY: Felt fish key ring

Materials

  • 15cm x 15 cm felt
  • embroidery thread (two colours)
  • button, 10mm split-ring, key ring, soft toy stuffing
  • scissors, embroidery needle, knitting needle, pliers

Method

  1. Download and print the fish key ring pattern.  Cut out the pattern from paper and then cut out two fish from felt.

    RUNNING STITCHES
  3. Decorate felt fish with embroidery stitches.  I used simple running stitches to emphasise the edge and tail.

    BLANKET STITCHING 
  5. Place the two felt fish together and sew around the edge with blanket stitching, leaving a 2cm opening on one side of the fish.

  6. Stuff the fish evenly through the opening with soft toy stuffing.  Close up the opening with blanket stitching.
  7. Sew the button securely into position to form an eye.

  8. Gently poke a hole with the knitting needle as indicated on the pattern.  Insert the split-ring through the hole and attach the key ring to finish off.
