This week I made two garden owls from old CD’s and
plastic bags. I hope that these critters with their reflective surfaces and
rustling plastic feathers will not only decorate the vegetable patch but also
keep tempted, unwanted visitors away.
Materials:
- old CD’s
- plastic shopping bags or fabric remnants
- garden netting or netting from vegetable packaging
- soda bottle lids and other recycled materials to decorate
- strong scissors, hot glue, crochet hook
Rustling owl:
Create a face for the owl by placing two CD's next to each
other on a flat surface. Cut another CD in half. Place the one half behind the
two CD’s to create the beak of the owl. Cut the other half in half again and
use these quarters to make the 'ears' of the owl. Cut an oval shape from the
netting to create the body of the owl. Glue all the pieces together with hot
glue. To make the rustling feathers, cut the plastic bags or fabric remnants into
long strips. Use the crochet hook to draw these strips thought the holes netting
and tie them to the netting. Work until you have covered the body with ample
plastic feathers. Decorate further with other recycled materials to finish off.

Reflecting owl:
Create the face of the owl as described for the rustling
owl. Hot glue together whole and cut up CD to create the body in various
layers.
