DIY: Serviette Decoupage on a paper lantern base.

BushcraftZ 2014
I have been meaning to do this project for a couple of months but have not had the opportunity. The initial plan was to decorate the paper lantern with a rose motive. This morning I re-discovered these beautiful poppy-themed serviettes I had saved for a special occasion. They reminded me of the spring poppies on show at the local garden center a few weeks ago inviting in spring.

Materials:
  • Paper Chinese lantern (I used a 50cm large paper lantern)
  • Serviettes with motive of your choice (The large lantern required about 16 serviettes)
  • Serviette Podge
  • Soft brush

Method:
  1. Carefully tear out the motives. The torn edges result in a softer effect and it is easier to blend to motives. Most serviettes have 2 or 3 layers. Only the top printed payer is used .Separate the top, printed layer from the rest before applying the motive.
  2. Carefully use the soft brush and serviette Podge and decoupage the serviette motives onto the lantern. Work carefully not the tear the paper of the lantern or the serviette. Allow to the Podge to dry.
