Re-purpose takeout cutlery

BushcraftZ 2014

Takeout cutlery is mostly made from plastic or sometimes from wood. Either way it is a shame to throw out the cutlery after use. I often use this cutlery to stir paints or glue as it is easy to discard after use without the need to clean. Sometimes I use these utensils create interesting patterns in clay or as tools in paper maché projects. Trying to find a more long-term solution to re-purposing this cutlery I turned the collected spoons, knives and forks into funky fridge magnets for the kitchen.

Materials:
BushcraftZ 2014
  • Takeout cutlery
  • Serviettes or printed paper
  • Modge podge, brush, scissors, craft knife, hot glue or craft glue
  • Magnets

Method:
  1. Clean the used cutlery well.
  2. Decorate for front by decoupage-ing printed serviettes or paper onto the cutlery with Modge Podge. The paper may hang over the edge of the cutlery. Allow to dry well. Cover the cutlery with another two to three layers of Modge Podge and allow to dry between each layer.

  3. Use a craft knife and neatly cut away the excess paper around the edge of the cutlery.
  4. Attach two magnets onto the back of each utensil with hot glue or craft glue to complete the fridge magnet.
