BushcraftZ 2014
Materials:
  • Felt 20 cm x 20 cm
  • Felt remnants
  • Magnet 20 cm x 20 cm sheet
  • A small amount of toy stuffing to stuff the cupcake tops
  • Beads, embroidery cotton in various colours, general sewing equipment,
  • Clear drying craft glue
  • Download pattern for cupcake fridge magnets

Method:
1. Cut a 5.5cm x 9.5 cm felt rectangle for the background of each cupcake felt magnets.

2. Use downloaded pattern and cut from felt the following pieces the individual pieces for each cupcake pattern.
  • cupcake cup
  • cupcake top
  • cupcake decoration
  • 2 felt circles for each cupcake to make the icing

3. Refer to the pattern and arrange all pieces accordingly onto the felt rectangle background.
Start with the top of the cupcake. Refer to the pattern sheet and sew any decorations onto the cupcake top. Position the decorated top onto the background felt (refer to pattern) and leave a small opening along the bottom edge. Stuff the top slightly with toy stuffing and close the opening.

4. Add the cup of the cupcake and use embroidery cotton to sew pieces into place. Add stitching as indicated on pattern.

5. Refer to pattern for step by step details and make a felt  icing rosette as follows: Fold one felt circle in half and then in half again. Repeat with the second felt circle. Place the two folded quarters on top of each other and sew then together on one straight edge. Take care to sew through all layers, also catching the inner felt layer. Open up the felt and place on top of the cupcake allowing the curved edges to fan out wards creating the illusion of a iced rosette. Sew into place along the center line.

6. Embroider a boarder around the edge of the background.

7. Assemble the fridge magnet: Cut the magnet sheet to the same size as the felt background. If the back of the magnet sheet is covered with a protective layer remove the layer first then apply a generous later of clear drying craft glue. Place the felt onto the magnet. Take care that the complete surface is stuck to the magnet sheet right to the edges. Wipe away any glue seeping from the edges. Allow to dry. The fridge magnet edges can be trimmed carefully to neaten any overhanging felt.
