Amigurumi Dachshund, Fritz

BushcraftZ 2014
One year ago the first BushcraftZ blog was posted online. The aim was to post one blog every week, showcasing a different project of craft. I had a lot of fun over the past year and also shared some of my own designs and patterns.  For the one year anniversary of the BushcraftZ I wanted to try something new to me. I decided to try my hand at Amigurumi, a Japanese art of knitting or crochet small, stuffed animals and interesting fantasy creatures. The most important factor in this art is to achieve ‘CUTE’. After trying out a pattern from a crochet magazine and being inspired by countless creative ‘pinned’ Amigurumi figurines and critters I decided to go on my own and design my first Amigurumi pet, Fritz the striped Dachshund. Traditionally patterns are crochet in a spiral. My pattern design is not entirely traditional. In order to achieve clear stripes this pattern is worked in separate rounds. I hope you enjoy the cheeky Fritz.

Materials:
  • Elle 4ply natural cotton (7 colours – or as many as you like)
  • 3.25 mm crochet hook (UK = 11; US = D/3)
  • Toy stuffing and wool needle with a larger eye
  • 2 x 8 mm glass eyes

Abbreviations:
  • ch (s) (chain/ chain stitch(es))
  • dc (double crochet UK = sc single crochet US)
  • st(s) (stitch(es)
  • ss (slip stitch)
  • dc2tog (double crochet two together (UK) = sc2tog (US))

Note: When finishing off each piece leave a long yarn tail at the end of each piece that can be used to attach the different pieces.
