DIY: Origami inspired Advent Calendar

BushcraftZ 2014
This year has flown by. On Sunday, 30 November 2014 we will be celebrating the first Advent and from the first day in December we will be counting down the days to Christmas. This year I decided to make an origami inspired Advent calendar folding two types of star boxes, a total of 24. In each a placed a small surprise. I numbered all the boxes from 1 to 24 to count down the days to Christmas from 1st of December to the 24th of December and placed them all in a large basket as decor around our minimalistic chandelier-style advent wreath that my Father welded for me a few years ago.

The instructions for these star shaped boxes can be found on the internet - follow the links. For the one star box I also put together a PDF document of my own step by step instructions with photos to guide you along.

Materials:
  • Paper to fold 24 origami star boxes
  • To decorate: tissue paper, carton, glue stick, double-sided tape, punch, yarn or twine, Washi tape and felt pen.
  • 24 small gifts to that fit into the boxes
  • Origami star box instructions:

Box B (PDF) (YouTube

Method:
  1. Punch out 24 circles from carton and label each circle with number 1 to 24. Punch a hole in each circle and add twine or yarn to make labels.
  2. Fold 12 star shaped boxes A. Place a small gift into the box and close the box by gluing the opening closed with tissue paper.

  4. Fold 12 star shaped boxes B. Place a small gift in each box. Close the opening and secure by wrapping yarn around the box and decorate the box and attach a label numbered between 1 and 24.
