I have a really hard time throwing away fabric scraps no
matter how small they are, I always think someday I might have a use for them.
With Valentine’s day coming up this week I decided to make miniature buntings
to decorate Valentine’s gifts and use these fabric and felt scraps. In no time
I had made the decorations. It is easy to vary the basic design of the mini
buntings and adapt them for different occasions.
Materials
- Fabric and felt scraps
- Masking tape
- Matching yarn and a darning needle, pencil and scissors
Method
- Place the fabric wrong side up on a flat surface. Cover the wrong side with overlapping layers of masking tape .
- Draw your design onto the masking tape with a pencil. I drew simple heart shapes in various sizes.
- Cut out the shapes and arrange them in a sequence of your choice. The masking tape at the back will keep the fabric from fraying and make the fabric less floppy.
- Use the darning needle and yarn and thread the shapes to form a mini bunting.
- Use the bunting to wrap around gifts, or decorate gift bags.
They can even be used to brighten up the back of chairs for a romantic
breakfast or dinner.
