DIY Recycle: Mini Valentine’s day bunting from fabric scrap

BushcraftZ 2015
I have a really hard time throwing away fabric scraps no matter how small they are, I always think someday I might have a use for them. With Valentine’s day coming up this week I decided to make miniature buntings to decorate Valentine’s gifts and use these fabric and felt scraps. In no time I had made the decorations. It is easy to vary the basic design of the mini buntings and adapt them for different occasions.

Materials
  • Fabric and felt scraps
  • Masking tape
  • Matching yarn and a darning needle, pencil and scissors
Method
  1. Place the fabric wrong side up on a flat surface. Cover the wrong side with overlapping layers of masking tape .
  2. Draw your design onto the masking tape with a pencil. I drew simple heart shapes in various sizes.
  3. Cut out the shapes and arrange them in a sequence of your choice. The masking tape at the back will keep the fabric from fraying and make the fabric less floppy.
  4. Use the darning needle and yarn and thread the shapes to form a mini bunting.
  5. Use the bunting to wrap around gifts, or decorate gift bags. They can even be used to brighten up the back of chairs for a romantic breakfast or dinner.
